Where did the custom of Baby Showers come from?
There is, however, some evidence that similar celebrations were held in Egyptian and Roman times as well as in countries like India and China. These celebrations would have been accompanied by a large meal and friends and family members would shower the expectant mother with handmade gifts like blankets and clothing.
Modern day Baby Showers have evolved from days of old and have come a long way from older methods of celebrating. Baby Showers were generally only attended by women but nowadays you will find both women and men sharing in the celebrations. Baby Showers were usually held after the birth of the new baby. This served as the reason for family members, friends and relatives to come and see the new born baby. However, modern day baby scans can show the gender of the baby and so celebrations can be held up to 2 months before the actual birth. This proves to be a wonderful time for family members and friends to gather in celebration of new life.
Regardless of Baby Shower history, the main reason for these celebrations is to welcome the new baby into the world and into the family. It is a time for family, friends and relatives to share the joy of the expectant mother and to show their support.
If you're thinking of throwing a Baby Shower you will find our FREE ebook 'Baby Shower Check List' useful in helping you organise the day.

Make it Personal
A recent survey of Europeans has shown that 64% feel that sending a greeting via facebook or twitter is inappropriate, with 23% believing it is extremely tacky!
I remember when eCards first started appearing. It was nice to be remembered but when receiving greeting cards I take into account the effort behind the thoughtfulness and an eCard just doesn’t take all that much effort. Personally, I have kept many greeting cards received over the years as mementos. I have never kept a facebook 'wall' wish!
According to this survey 34% of Europeans also think that sending a thank you message through a social network is inappropriate. Given that a thank you is meant to send appreciation, isn’t it worth the effort to hand write a short note on lovely thank you cards and put a stamp on them?
The next time you want to reach out to someone, do it with style. Some may call greeting cards printed on paper, signed and delivered old-fashioned, but I call it personal. The effort you take is sure to be warmly received and returned in kind.
Which do you prefer, paper or virtual? Please take a few seconds to let us know :)
